Turning Twenty...

In just a few days, my triplet daughters will be turning twenty years old!  Twenty!!  Wow, twenty years have gone by in a hurry, when it seems like it took forever for them to get here in the first place....

You see, I am the oldest of eleven children and was an "old maid" when I finally got married.  Three of my younger sisters were already married, each of them had one child, two of them were on their second, and even my own parents had a new baby that year.  In my wedding picture, all three of my brother-in-laws and even my own father had a baby in their arms.

I couldn't wait for children and a couple of years later, our son Jordan was born.  The summer Jordan turned two, I became pregnant again, and they discovered an "echo" - twins!  I dealt with that news until a second ultrasound at 24 weeks along revealed another baby in there.... triplets!!!

After four weeks of bedrest at home and six weeks in the hospital (in labor, on a plethora of drugs to prevent contractions), our three tiny babies were born.  Lauren 4 lbs 6 oz, Nicole 3 lbs 10 oz, and Chelsea 3 lbs 1 oz.

The first year is still a blur in my mind.  Four babies in diapers....  So glad those days are gone, although I wouldn't trade one minute of motherhood.  I adore my children, and it has been a privilege, a pleasure and a joy.

So, my babies are turning twenty.  And they won't let me make matching outfits for them anymore, but guess what?  There is a quilt pattern called "Turning Twenty!"  The girls are all quilters too, so I will pay for the fabric, but they will each sew their own "Turning Twenty" quilts.  Now it's time to go shopping.  Each quilt takes twenty fat quarters of fabric.  How fun is that???
