Dare to Dresden...

Yes, Madame Samm has done it again, she's motivated quilters from around the globe to stir up those creative juices, inspire one another and has even rounded up some goodies to giveaway for this terrific blog hop (check it out at SewWeQuilt.com).

Christine over at Quilt Monster in My Closet ←(see full schedule) has organized over 100 quilters for this "Sew & Tell" showcase - here's mine!

Oooh, I love traditional blocks with a little non-traditional spin to them...

Made of little wedges stitched together to form a circular design, a Dresden Plate, as it was commonly called, gained its popularity in the 1920s and 1930s.

Here's how I made my sample using an EZDresden ruler.

Cut out 10 wedges (20 = a full circle):

Lay them out in an order you like:

Fold the top edge of each wedge in half, right sides together, and chain-stitch:

Press seams open:

Turn right side out to form points:

Press:

Stitch wedges together into pairs, then stitch the pairs together:

Applique' to an 18" background piece:
I used this half-dresden in black & white as a study
for a turned-edge applique' TUTORIAL ←(see here).
It's on my 2013 UFO list to finish.  What do you think?
A center block for a Round Robin exchange?  A Pillow?  A Wallhanging?
Maybe I'll get it done by the end of this hop!!

Check out Mdm. Samm's Pinterest collection to see more daring, creative, innovative, stunning, beautiful dresdens!

Happy Quilting!!
