Autumn Love Block Party ~ Crows & Vines

It's a quilted couch pillow.

Quilted Couch Pillow by Deonn Stott
Featuring RBD Wool and Autumn Love fabric by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet for Riley Blake Designs
Lori Holt is just wrapping up her latest sew along, Autumn Love.  Oh, my goodness!  Adorable.

Lori has been posting weekly instructions block by block during the sew-along, and Crows & Vines is the very last featured block:!

I'm happy to be able to share my project featuring this block, sponsored by Riley Blake Designs.  I wanted to try some of RBD's luscious new wool for the applique'.  Gorgeous!

And I used some of Lori Holt's collection of Aurifloss in matching colors for the embroidery.  Love their little wooden spools!

Selvage edge.  Cute lil' punkins...

To stabilize the background, I applied a fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric.  Not only does it hide any stray knots or strands of floss, but it holds up under the additional weight of wool applique'.

Oh, I do love using wool for applique' - no edges to turn under!

For the most part, I used two strands of floss to stitch around the pieces with simplistic stitchery, nothing extravagant.  I used a whip stitch around the edges, a few running stitches on the vines and French knots to embellish.  I used little wool cutouts in place of buttons.  See my little Stitchery Primer HERE.

I decided to add a border, bringing it to about 18" x 42".

I could not make up my mind between using it a wall hanging or table runner or couch pillow, so I did all three!  I quilted the top with a thin bamboo batting and muslin backing, then installed a zipper in a separate backing, basted the pieces together and added the binding.

With the binding on, you can't tell it has a zipper in the back.   This way I can lay it on the table, hang it on the wall, or use it as a comfy couch pillow.

Oh, my.  I love my new pillow!  I love the rich colors of the wool, this delightful block design, and I think it will work for more seasons than Autumn alone!

    1. Thanks, Mary! I only made the one, but if I take the pillow out, I can use it for a table runner or wall hanging.

  4. that is just stunning!! I love that you did it in wool: such a nice touch and love the added dimension. And I tried to comment on your last blog post, but maybe I waited too long and it wouldn't accept the comment, but I love the embroidery you did in the star blocks. So cute and so creative! Beautiful work!! Hugs, H
