Gnome for Christmas! RBD Project Tour

Are you thinking about Christmas?  Now is the time!

Gnome for Christmas is a new line of flannel making its way to fabric stores this month!  That gives us plenty of time to think of all the fun things we can make.  After all, there are only 245 days until Christmas!

Gnome for Christmas fabric by Tara Reed for Riley Blake Designs

Gnomes are so cute and loveable, and since making a few batches of Gnomie pincushion/ornaments last December, I kinda needed this fabric.

I've sewn RBD flannel in the past, and to me it is the most luscious, soft, yummy flannel out there!  Even after washing, this double-napped flannel remains oh-so-soft.

It is perfect for what I had in mind for this fabric!  First up,  a Nightshirt for my daughter!  The pattern is Simplicity #S9211.

This line also comes with a panel, in both reds or greens.

I divided up the panel and used the blocks in a couple of different ways.  A small panel motif was the perfect size to make a pocket on the nightshirt.

The next project was a little outfit for my grandson, almost two years old; PJ pants, a long-sleeve t-shirt, and a gnome hat.

Right now, long-sleeve t-shirts are really hard to find as we're on the brink of spring, so I combined an inexpensive short-sleeve t-shirt with an equally inexpensive pair of leggings!  I cut off the legs and stitched them inside the short sleeves, haha!

Another small block from the panel made a cute applique' for the shirt.

The gnome fabric for the pants turned out so cute!  The pattern is a free download from Zune's Sewing Therapy

The hat is about 16" tall, and the measurement at the bottom is the circumference of his head plus one inch.

I think he will get the hang of it, eventually!

And finally, the center motif of the panel made up a sweet pillow!

I quilted one large snowflake design in the center, then added a zipper in the back using this easy lapped zipper TUTORIAL, and finished off with a quick machine-binding.

TIP:  When I'm binding this way, I cut 2-1/8" binding strips, apply it to the front, then flip the binding to the back, and stitch in the ditch to catch the edge.  An edge-joining foot works great for stitching in the ditch.

And finally, Mr. Gnomie himself!

I used my Gnomie pincushion PATTERN and enlarged it 200% for a fun little plush pal.  Some shaggy minky worked great for his beard!  He measures about 8 inches tall and four inches wide.
TIP:  Cut long-pile fur only through the backing to preserve the length of the strands.

Well, looks like I have a good head-start on Christmas!  At least it has put me in a Christmas mood!  How about you?  Are visions of sugar-plums dancing in your head?

Happy Sewing!

  4. I just LOVE what you did with my Gnome for Christmas fabrics! Seeing the creativity that comes from fabric I design is one of the biggest thrills of my work. I've never made pajamas before but I feel the need for matching Gnome pjs for the whole family this Christmas! Thank you :)
