Ah, November

So soon, November.  So soon the falling of the leaves and the following of the snow.

After a lovely time in Hawaii with our family (can I go and live there??), we drove home from the airport in a blizzard!  A perfect excuse to stay inside and stitch.  At the UVQG Fall Retreat in Park City 100 quilters stitched away for a blissful few days.  The theme of "Let it Snow!"  had us thinking...

I was invited to teach a class all about my favorite BINDING tips, alternate edges including chenille, scallops, trim, and faux piping, followed by a small trunk show.  Then I taught the UFO to GO portable design wall project - a great way to practice their new binding/edging/faux piping skills.  And it was good practice for me for next Summer's Small Town Quilt Show!  Then I quilted til I wilted for three more days.

Did I get anything done?  Yes.  Pieced endless blocks for daughter's wedding quilt. She bought the fabric several years back, and we'll be finishing it together.  Maybe it will be ready by Christmas!

Then I finished a flimsy.  I think this is #87 of my UFO pile.  Hey, it might be quilted by NEXT Halloween!  Any progress is good.

This past week I taught the quick Drunkard's Path block at one of my local guilds, made so easy with AccuQuilt dies, I love it!  And I finally decided to piece together my sample units for a topper.  Might as well - I've been using them for a couple of years to demonstrate layouts...

Now I just give this >> HANDOUT <<.  The chart uses 16 Drunkard's Path units for each layout, eight of each colorway.  I finally decided on layout #9...  Too late to change it now!  This will make a great little 28" x 28" table topper.  Now, If I made 3 more blocks like this, it would be the perfect size baby quilt... not that I'm thinking about that yet... ;)  And if I made 8 more blocks, that would be a great bed-size comforter.  But, this is all the fabric I have for a topper, and I can probably quilt it by next Spring.

Finally, this weekend I finished writing a pattern for a new tree skirt.  Do you use a tree skirt for your holiday decor?  This twisty woven border looks so elegant, I can't wait to get mine done, but it may not be quilted until Christmas 2014!

Meanwhile, time to hunker down and get back to work, quilting for clients...  What about you?  Is it a Sew Day in your neck of the woods?
