PLUS a little "Quilter's Math"
To determine the size of squares you'll need to cut for
Eight INSTANT HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES = (FS + 1") x 2
(Desired FINISHED SIZE + 1 inch) x 2 = Cut 2 squares
HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES
1) DRAW an "X" on the wrong side of the lighter fabric.
3) STITCH on both sides of each line.
4) CUT vertically, horizontally +, then diagonally x.
TRIM, PRESS. YIELD: 8 Half-Square Triangles

To determine the size of squares you'll need to cut for
Eight INSTANT QUARTER-SQUARE TRIANGLES = (FS + 1.5") x 2
(Desired FINISHED SIZE + 1-1/2 inches) x 2 = Cut 2 squares
QUARTER-SQUARE TRIANGLES
Follow steps 1 through 4 as diagrammed above, then press HSTs open
with seam allowance toward the darker fabric. Continue as follows:
Use two Half-Square Triangles.
1) DRAW a diagonal line on the back of one of the HSTs,
perpendicular to the stitching line.
2) LAYER two HSTs together, abutting the seam.
3) STITCH on both sides of the line.
4) CUT on the drawn line.
YIELD: 2 QSTs
perpendicular to the stitching line.
2) LAYER two HSTs together, abutting the seam.
3) STITCH on both sides of the line.
4) CUT on the drawn line.
YIELD: 2 QSTs
REPEAT with each set. One batch of Matic 8 HSTs will also
YIELD 8 Quarter-Square Triangles. The Ohio Star block uses 4 QSTs.

Happy Quilting!
Nice tutorial. The look wonderful in the block.
