Kitchen Stitchin' Blog Hop

When Carla @ Creatin' in the Sticks put out the word for her next Blog Hop, I knew I wanted to play!

I had been eyeing the upcoming Sew Kewpie® fabric from Riley Blake Designs, with adorable little Kewpie dolls playing amongst ladles, rolling pins, cupcakes and jars of jam, and already had plans to feature a pair of Mommy & Me Aprons.  You can see the aprons and the accompanying soft book in my previous post.  So cute!

I wanted to complete the ensemble for my daughter and her little daughter, who turned two in February and has been "helping" her mom and dad in the kitchen!  Then I discovered this Oven Mitt free pattern download and tutorial at Made for Mermaids, which also came in adult and child sizes!  Perfect.

It was a quick and simple process to make these mitts!  I followed Megan's tutorial to layer the lining, batting, Insul-bright (with a reflective, metalized polyester film), outer fabric, then quilted through all the layers.

It was relatively easy to sew through all those layers, but then you pink the raw edges... Let's just say, that was a workout!  A little binding at the opening and I think they turned out great!

Here's the full ensemble.  Sew. Darn. Cute!

While I was at it, I made Little Kewpie a new outfit to match!  She gave it a Thumbs Up!  You can find the "Sew Cute Kewpie" doll and panel kit with little outfits and a doll blanket online.

Now I can send the whole kit and kaboodle (and Kewpie) to my daughter and her little baker!

Next, I need to find some equally adorable fabric to make an apron and oven mitt for my cute son-in-law, too!  Here's the Sugar Cookie Recipe they were making in the video. Yummm!

  11. Sew cute! What a fun gift! I hope you can find an apron pattern that works for your SIL. I have mixed results with aprons for men! They are too short or too narrow or just fit weird!
