Gnomes in Love ~ RBD Project Tour

Oh, my goodness, Gnomies!  Gnomes in Love is a new line of fabric by Tara Reed for Riley Blake Designs, getting a jump on Valentine's Day, or any time you need a little joy and love in your life!

I already have a love affair with Tara Reed's Gnomies, as I played with her Gnome for Christmas flannel earlier this year.  Soooo cute!

The main print above sports sweet messages, like little Valentines.  So fun and cheerful!  This is my backing, which makes it a reversible topper!  I used Hearts and Dots plus a couple of RBD Basics (Swiss Dot & Mini Hashtag) to make the Gnome blocks.

I added a little pink Toss border for a nice finish:

This cute topper was a hand-written pattern given out at last year's Pie Plate Quilt Retreat by Brenda Bailey.  I am smitten!  Love the little details - those squares in the 9-patch finish at 3/4 inches!  And the heart-shaped beard just tickles me.  Brenda's pattern is unpublished at this time but I did locate a similar gnome from HelloMelly Designs, a free block tutorial, "You Gnome I Love You".

There are lots of quick stitch-n-flip triangle corners in this block, including his nose.  I went with a dimensional nose so it would have no visible center seam.  Here's how:

Cut a rectangle, 1-3/4" x 3" for the nose.

Fold the rectangle in half, lengthwise.

Pin in place aligning raw edges.  The fold is at the bottom.

Stitch the center seam, enclosing the raw edges of the folded rectangle.

Press the seam open.

Open and flatten the top edge of the nose.

Baste in place.

Turned out great.  This is also how you can make Dimensional Flying Geese blocks.   Now, if I can keep my grandson from sticking his finger up the little gnomes' noses... lol!

As for the quilting: wavy lines for the beard, a few freemotion motifs for the background and shirts, crosshatched hats and "Crib Hearts" for the border.  Just perfect!

Gnomes in Love is making its way to quilt shops soon!  It's never too early to spread a little love!  "Be Kind gnome matter what".

Have a LOVE-ly Day!
