Ten-Minute Table Runner!

Hi, all!  Happy Holidays!  It's sure a busy time of the year here at Quiltscapeswhere I've been helping lots of Santa's little elves get their quilts and projects ready for the big day.... only 5 DAYS away!!

  • Looking for a last-minute gift or decoration?
  • Got a bit of fabric? (1/3 yard focus fabric, 1/2 yard border fabric)
  • Got a few minutes?? (About 10 to 15, that's all it  takes!)

Let's dress up the table!!

1)  Focus/Main Print:  CUT a rectangle 12" x width of fabric (approx 44")
Border Fabric:  CUT a rectangle 18" x width of fabric

2)  With right sides together, PIN fabrics together on the long side.
Repeat for the other side.

3)  STITCH both long sides using 1/4" seam allowance, forming a tube.

4)  TURN tube right side out; ALIGN the border fabric evenly
on both sides of main print and smooth it out, then
PRESS with the seam allowance toward the border edges.
STITCH in the DITCH to keep borders in place, if desired.
(Adds another 4 to 5 minutes...)

5)  TRIM ends evenly,

FINISH EDGES with a zig-zag stitch, or serge if desired.

6)  FOLD runner in half lengthwise with focus print inside.
PIN ends, matching up the border seams.

7)  STITCH through all thicknesses,
backstitching at the beginning and ending.

8)  CLIP corner at an angle to reduce bulk,
PRESS seam open, then TURN right side out
to form a point at the ends.  Center and PRESS.

  9)  TACK or SEW down edge to the back of the table runner.

10)  PRESS well.  REPEAT for other end.

~~ OR ~~
Here's another option to finish the ends: (Steps 6 through 10)
6A)  FOLD runner in half lengthwise, with BORDER print inside.
PIN ends, matching up the border seams.

7A)  STITCH through all thicknesses,
backstitching at the beginning and ending.

8A)  PRESS seam open, then TURN right side out
to form a point at the ends.  Center and PRESS.

9A)  TACK or SEW down edge to the FRONT of the table runner.

10A)  EMBELLISH if desired - applique', buttons, rick-rack, fancy stitches...
All set for Christmas!  (I like the first option -
Gotta go to town and find some red tassels for the ends!)

That's it - sweet and simple.
