Fabric Fest Blog Hop Tour - and a giveaway!

Welcome to my stop on the Riley Blake Designs' Fabric Fest Blog Hop Tour with another giveaway!
UFO to Go - a Portable Design Wall

If you are new here, Hi! I'm Deonn. For just over two years, the folks at Riley Blake have allowed me to play with their fabric, write monthly tutorials, shoot "How To" videos for their website, and teach Make & Take projects at Quilt Market.  Love this company ~ the people and their products, and I am sooo looking forward to what is sure to be a fantastic Fabric Fest!

I get a little giddy thinking about sharing four blissful days sewing and quilting with not only my friends at Riley Blake, Jina and Cindy and a few of their designers ~ Amanda, Lila, Sandra, Sue, Bonnie, Lori, etc.,  and I'm also looking forward to making new friends and hanging out with fabulous, iconic women of the quilting and sewing world, including Nancy Ziemann and Eleanor Burns!

I noticed that there were technical difficulties on Eleanor's featured hop day, so I thought I'd share a little blip about her impact on the quilting world as we know it today, described in her biography HERE.  Plus, Eleanor and I, we're like BFFs... she's a kick!

Sewing Expo, Puyallup, WA 2010  with Eleanor Burns

Eleanor:  ...teachers."

Complete with flying pig.

At the RBD Warehouse last year, Salt Lake City, UT.
Here I'm confessing that I'm a devoted stalker fan.
Yes, that's her signature on my ruler, again!
We've hung out together at Quilt Market a few times...

Getting a personal demo of Eleanor's fast Flying Geese.

Trying out Hexagami Flowers with her arm in a sling. That's perseverance!
RBD Make & Take station, Portland, OR, 2013.
Oh, yes, and my classes?
I'm thrilled to be teaching the Make & Take classes, featuring Riley Blakes' fabulous laminated cotton fabric.

Make & Take project supplies will be provided for each attendee, and we'll sew a terrific sewing kit ensemble I call Snippets.  These include 1) Jina's Laminated Bag,  2) UFO to GO Portable Design Wall, and several other quick projects for the sewing room; 3) Needlenook, 4) Scissor Pocket, and  5) Rosebud Wristlet pincushion made with coordinating prints and notions.  (Look for a bit of Chevron in the kits!)  Doesn't this sound like fun??  Even the sewing machines will be provided for the classes!  (Thanks, BabyLock!)  Sewing bliss indeed.  Be sure to sign up for your session.

Building Blocks
And due to popular demand from newbie quilters, we've added Quilt School, a class specifically geared for new quilters, or anyone who wants to improve their basic quilting skills. We'll piece several "Building Blocks" in class, which will include quick, fun tips, tricks and tools to simplify the process.  We'll learn how to "grow" a quilt, and finish up with a terrific binding demo.  Since it was added recently, this class still has openings.
Quilt School - Pieceful Beginnings
And finally, the giveaway!  Would you like to try out some laminate fabric?  I'll be giving away 1/2 yard of chevron laminate plus a stack of six coordinating fat quarters.  That's enough to make the sewing kit ensemble plus all of the sampler building blocks if you so choose.  The winner will also receive one of Eleanor's 6-1/2" Triangle Square-Up rulers.  Sew fun!  Leave a comment below telling one of your favorite quilty things to do in the Summertime!  Winner will be selected on Saturday, June 29th at 9am, MST.

I hope to see you at Fabric Fest!  You can see more details and REGISTER HERE <<  And be sure to check out the other classes and teachers listed below!

  1. One of my favorite quilt things for the summer is visiting my Mom. With three kids now, it is hard to find "me" time. So when we visit, I have that sewing time. My Mom is a fabulous quilter and the kids love to snuggle under her quilts! I also get to raid her fat quarter stash and spy on what her latest project is. Visiting quilt shops together is a blast and getting her help on quilts (she quilts them for me) is a great benefit!

  2. Summer si a great time to get out and go visit new quilt & fabric shops and rediscover old ones too. Also my sister and I like to visit the antique and thrift shops in hopess of spying old quilts. And it is also a great time for small hand sewing in the car as we are out and about a lot more.

  3. My favorite summer quilting to-do is quilting with my sister for a week. We both take off from busy lifes, pick a project to quilt and meet up away from homes, husbands and busyness to just quilt, just relax, and did I say just quilt.

  4. When we go on vacation I love to visit local quilt shops - I found some amazing fabric on some of these out of the way places! My BFF and I also like to drive around and look for quilt barns!

  5. We usually visit family in the summer & it's a great chance to find new quilt shops. Thanks.

  6. My favorite summer quilting thingy is to sit outside on my deck (at my little Jersey shore get-away) with my sewing maching & start piecing whatever project I have at the moment. Then I get to do the 2 things I love most - quilt & relax down the shore! Thanks so much for the chance to win. Wish I could be there for your classes. :) Debby

  28. What a fabulous class you have lined up Deonn. I would be thrilled to take yours. I sure wish I were able to go to Fabric Fest, but it's not possible for a few reasons. I hope you all have a blast.

In the summer my quilty things don't change much other than I tend to spend more time organizing during the summer time than other times of the year for some reason. I'm not sure why, but I get 'that bug' ya know. I sure hope it hits me soon because I can't find my cutting table OR sewing table right now. Before two weeks ago I was kinda stuck as I had run out of my storage containers I use from The Container Store which is about 1 1/2 hrs from our house but hubby nicely fixed that problem when he drove through that area after returning one of my sons back to MI where he is doing his externship after completing law school. YAY. Great hubby I have. Sadly, those containers are now cluttering the living room because the urge to clear my room up hasn't struck me yet. LOL

But, the other quilty thing I do each summer is start planning Christmas presents and ideas of what to make and start collecting all those items to prepare to start getting those things completed, or at least started.

  126. Great post! I'd love to hang out with Eleanor Burns and soak up all her quilt knowledge, hehe. I have not yet tried the laminate fabric but would love to, it's all so pretty. Your classes look fun and wish I could be there. I like working on smaller projects in the summer. It gets over 100 here, so handwork is great. 199. I love sitting outside with the kids playing, cup of tea on hand with a portable project on my knee. I normally try to save some projects which need hand appliqué or hand stitching so that I can do these outside. Once the rain or mosquitoes come, we can head back inside to the sewing machine, generally with my little boys "pressing the accelerator" (presser foot) of my sewing machine and selecting my pins colours for me. Choas, but so much fun I wouldn't trade it for anything. Kirrily.
