Oh, My Stars! (& Garters) 24" x 24" Topper, featuring Give Thanks fabric by Sandy Gervais for Riley Blake Designs |
Finished quilting this sweet little topper, just in time for Thanksgiving!
I was recently reading a story about my great-grandparents. Grandma Martha was an excellent cook, and Grandpa Henry was quoted as saying, "My stars, Marthie! That's good pie!" I don't often make pies, and this year's pie was a frozen Marie Callender's that you bake at home, but it tasted good too!
The gorgeous floral bouquet was handcrafted by my friend Heather @smartfreshflowerfarm. Perfect!
This little one-block topper was made as I taught a Zoom class for the Utah State Extension Service's annual Sewing Training convention last March.
I named the pattern Oh, My Stars! (& Garters), because, not only was it a family saying, but when the blocks are laid out and either bordered by another block or a pieced border like this, it creates a secondary star design in the background! My stars! I love that design!
This is the 5th project I've made with it. I enjoy making it, and it's a popular class, mainly because it uses two of my favorite "Insta-Block" techniques: Fast, Fabulous (no-waste) Flying Geese, and the Magic 8. Both of these techniques produce multiple units at the same time! Quick and simple - gotta love that too!
The big, open center block allows for some creativity - applique', embroidery, fussy-cut fabrics, or you can leave it plain. This is my favorite little birdie that combines both applique' and embroidery. The bird on autumn leaves applique' pattern is included with the digital pattern. So many things to love about this pattern! You can find it at Quiltscapes' Etsy Shop.
Happy Quilting!
