Buttercup Blooms ~ "Vivienne"

"Vivienne" 60" x 60" Lap Quilt by Deonn
featuring Buttercup Blooms by Gerri Robinson for Riley Blake Designs

Gerri Robinson's new fabric line caught my eye with its luscious butter-colored yellows on navy blue with little glimmers of silver ~ like a flower garden in the moonlight.  The fabrics spoke to me and I just had to get some in my hands to remake an old favorite.

Easy pieced blocks and simple applique' shapes combine to make this a quick and pretty throw; simple to make for a confident beginner.  And, this quilt is a good one to grow to the size you need it to be, even if you just go one round.  Starting with the center block, each round of borders could be a finished quilt.

Round #1 with Mitered Borders makes a 27" table topper:

Round #2 with Pieced Instant Blocks comes together quickly too.  Just 6 sets of the "Magic 8" Quarter-square triangle blocks, a little chain-piecing, corner applique' blocks, and the next border is ready!

The quilt is now 45" x 45", a good Wall Hanging or small Throw size.

Round #3 with the second batch of mitered borders added brings it to 60" x 60".  Love, love it!

A little custom quilting, simple but elegant, just like sweet Vivienne, for whom the quilt is named.  See the original quilt and the story that inspired the design HERE.

Wow, I adore these fabrics as well as the pattern. I used the same border idea with a fun Christmas panel quilt recently, HERE.  The Vivienne quilt pattern is available at Quiltscapes' Etsy Shop!

On a recent trip to teach at a Quilty Friends Retreat at Ruby's Inn near Bryce Canyon, my daughter was the perfect holder-upper for a few "Quilts in the Wild" shots!  I think it's beautiful!

My Honey brought home a whole pot of Buttercups for Valentine's Day!  How did he know they'd be perfect for my photos?!  ♥♥  Love ya, Hon!

Happy Quilting!

  1. Beautiful!! And I somehow missed the story of Grandma Vivienne, so I went back and read your post about it: what a beautiful story of love and life!! And are you still singing in The Choir? I look for your face when I watch Conference, but never seem to see you. :-( Hugs, H
