My local quilt guild issues an annual design challenge.  The 2024 Challenge:  Make a two-color quilt.  I chose a couple of my favorite colors, then started designing in my EQ8 software.

How the design started:

Don't you love it when, every once in a while, a quilt will pop up on the screen in a TV show or movie, or commercial?  I'm talking about Quilts on TV, not quilts to wrap up in while watching TV.  Here's a snapshot of a commercial:

My local quilt guild issued a Design Challenge this past year, and I was excited to play along!  

THE CHALLENGE:  Make a quilt using the following criteria:

I am so excited to "Sew & Tell" this quilt on today's project tour for Riley Blake Designs!  It is the pretty fabric itself that inspires the design: Vintage-style prints with a big, bold design for the border, background fabric that appears wallpaper-ish, and elements in the fabrics that lend themselves to things that might hang on an old-fashioned hat stand.

Love to Sew ~ "Blessed Beyond Measure" Project Tour

Introducing Buttermilk Basin's new fabric line, "Blessed Beyond Measure" by Stacy West for Riley Blake Designs.  It includes a couple of printed panels that include sewing notions and sayings reminiscent of Stacy's experiences with the women in her family who loved to sew and embroider.

I love to take part in this annual challenge and have been participating in one way or another since 2007.  This little quilt was really fun to piece (I have a thing for chickens), and the pattern, Free Range by Sandy Gervais seemed to suit the fabrics perfectly.  I used "Chicken Wire" quilting design, added little dimensional elements, and finished with a fun faux-piped binding. ♥♥

...still not sure if these look like bees or bugs... you decide.

It's been a fun week to see everyone's black & white creations on this hop!  A big THANKS to Carla for thinking of this subject - I have been inspired!

Ch-ch-ch-changes...

So, as of December 28th, it appears that Craftsy reduced the number of quilt patterns available on their website from over 29,000 to around 2300!  With those odds, I guess I'm lucky that six of my 42 patterns were spared from the great purge; about 15%.  Here's my whole store.

Spring is in the air!  Well, actually Spring is still battling it out with Winter, who showed up with a little snow yesterday, but anyway. Springtime means it's also time for Utah's Quilting & Sewing Marketplace (UQSM for short) and once again it's time to party!

Home Machine Quilting Show 2016 Design Challenge.

Look at this lovely lusciousness.  What would you design with these fabrics?

Riley Blake Designs has graciously donated fabrics for this challenge.  Contestants will receive eight half-yard cuts from Amanda Herring's Ardently Austen fabrics.  All quilts in the contest will be auctioned for this year's HMQS charity of choice, the The Christmas Box International, which provides assistance to prevent child abuse and services to improve the quality of life for children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned.

Finding "Mo"Jo

A couple of months ago, I introduced you to "Mo", my new-to-me Gammill Classic longarm quilting machine with a computerized Statler Stitcher system.

Because I bought it used, it came pre-loaded with hundreds of designs.  My girls and girlfriends have made some great strides in getting to know this little gem of a machine.

Lauren wanted to make quilted ukulele cases.  (I know, cool!)  This is her ukulele, hand-made by her father-in-law - I think it is stunning!

She is making cases for her husband's and his brother's ukuleles too.

We quilted out 3 yards of fabric using Soft & Stable foam stabilizer for the batting:

Chelsea used the same process and quilted a cute panel to some Soft & Stable for an adorable bag. We also disengaged the belts for a little freemotion doodling...

I love the fact that we can push a button and the machine does all the heavy labor!  Oh, this is fun!  It can really produce on those edge to edge designs.

My friend Debbie and her daughter knocked out the quilting on their RBD design challenge quilt for HMQS in a matter of a few hours.  I'm working on a schedule to rent out time on the machine.  More details later!

Zircon Crystals 

This pretty quilt, along with a couple dozen more challenge quilts, mine included (see it HERE), were auctioned at the Home Machine Quilting Show in Salt Lake City earlier this month, raising nearly $7000 for this year's charity, Family Promise.

And we're finally whittling away at that stack of UFOs that have been waiting for the quilter (me) for the past ten years since I first bought Ol' Betsy!

Nicole's Star Medallion Quilt is coming along nicely!

Worked on a few charity quilts - this one will be donated to Quilts of Valor.

We're enjoying this machine, experimenting and getting to know Mo a little better.   Even my dear husband wants to try!

Meanwhile, Ol' Betsy is still going strong, as busy as ever on custom freemotion quilting for clients.  Yep, it's a quilted world around here!

Blogger's Quilt Festival!

It's time for the Blogger's Quilt Festival again!  Perfect timing, since I recently finished this sweet little wall hanging.  And, she's a winner!  At HMQS last week in Salt Lake City, Isabella's Bonnets placed 2nd in the RBD Design Challenge.  Then, she and the other 26 quilts in the competition were sold at auction, raising an amazing $6,900 for this year's charity, Family Promise.

Love this fabric for this turn-of-the-century-style quilt.  The fabric itself gave great clues as to how I should design, embellish then free-motion quilt it.  Tried for a wallpaper look in the background.
